Trade Minister Zulhas: Restrictions On Airplane Passengers' Goods Are No Longer Regulated By The Ministry Of Trade

JAKARTA - The Minister of Trade (Mendag) Zulkifli Hasan revealed that the rules for limiting the luggage of airplane passengers from abroad are no longer regulated by the Ministry of Trade (Kemendag).

Zulhas, as Zulkifli Hasan is familiarly called, said that this had been decided in a coordination meeting chaired by the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs, together with the Directorate General of Customs and Excise at the Ministry of Finance (Kemenkeu), and so on.

"The third, limiting people from spending, it's also a matter of PMK, it's not regulated in Permendag anymore. You want to buy 2, buy 3, buy 4, that's the matter regulated by PMK, not in Permendag," he said. met at the office of the Coordinating Ministry for the Economy, Central Jakarta, Tuesday, April 16.

According to Zulhas, the coordination meeting's decision did not remove restrictions on passenger luggage from abroad.

However, the limit on the number of goods that passengers can carry will be set by the Ministry of Finance through the Minister of Finance Regulation (PMK).

"We don't regulate it in the Permendag, it's regulated in PMK," he explained.

Furthermore, said Zulhas, if later there are passengers carrying goods from abroad in the amount that exceeds the provisions of the PMK, then the passengers will be subject to customs.

"It has been agreed, please buy clothes 3, want to buy clothes 2, the important thing is to pay taxes. If I buy 3, the other is confiscated? Yes, you have to pay taxes. That's back like that," said Zulhas.

For your information, previously the provisions for limiting passenger luggage from abroad were stipulated in Permendag number 36 of 2023. The regulation took effect on March 10, 2024.

As for the Permendag, there are 10 luggage that are limited, including finished clothes and finished clothing accessories (there is no value limit or amount). Textile goods have become others (at least five pieces per person).

Then, cell phones, handheld computers and tablets (at most two units per person in one arrival within one year).

Next, bags (at most two pieces per person). Toys (worth at most 1.500 FOB dollars or around Rp. 24 million per person).

Electronics (at most 5 units with a maximum value of 1,500 US dollars or around Rp. 24 million per person).

Then, footwear (at most 2 pairs per person). Mutiara (worth the most FOB 1,500 US dollars or around Rp. 24 million). Animals and animal products (at most 5 kg and do not exceed 1,500 US dollars or around Rp. 24 million per passenger). Rice, corn, sugar, garlic and horticultural products (at most 5 kg per passenger).
