Completed In May 2024, Balikpapan RDMP Refinery Will Be The Largest In Indonesia

JAKARTA - Pertamina is currently focusing on completing the Balikpapan Refinery Development Master Plan (RDMP), which is entering Revamp Turn Around (TA) which is targeted for completion in early May 2024.

Pertamina's President Director, Nicke Widyawati, explained that the TA Revamp program has the aim of integrating the existing refinery unit with a new refinery unit as a result of the RDMP project implementation.

The success of the Balikpapan RDMP project will increase the production capacity of the Balikpapan Refinery by 100 thousand barrels per day, which means the production capacity of the Balikpapan Refinery to 360 thousand barrels per day from the initial capacity of 260 thousand barrels per day.

"We all pray and fully support so that the revamping process, which is an important milestone of this RDMP project, runs smoothly," said Nicke, Thursday, April 4.

Nicke further said that it was not easy to build projects as big and complex as this, but Pertamina through PT Kilang Pertamina Internasional and all the teams involved had proven that through full commitment and with strong cooperation they were able to overcome the existing challenges.

"We are committed to completing this project because all Indonesian people have been waiting for. This project will provide great added value to the Indonesian economy. Pertamina is proud to have a project of this size," said Nicke.

Later when the Balikpapan RDMP is complete, this will be the largest oil refinery in Indonesia. The reason is, the capacity of the Balikpapan Refinery will exceed the capacity of the Cilacap Refinery, which is currently the largest capacity refinery.

Currently, the Cilacap Refinery processes 345 thousand barrels of oil per day (bpd). Meanwhile, the Balikpapan Refinery will be able to process crude oil of 360 thousand bpd. In addition to increasing oil processing capacity, there will be an additional production of petrochemical products of up to 225 thousand tons per year.
