Pertamina International Shipping Add 3 New Tankers For Global Expansion

JAKARTA - PT Pertamina International Shipping (PIS) has scored a hat trick in the past month, adding 3 new tanker fleets to support national energy security, as well as world market expansion.

The 3 latest PIS tankers consist of 1 Suezmax type ship, and 2 Medium Range (MR) vessels, each named Pertamina Halmahera, PIS Java, and PIS Kalimantan.

Pertamina Halmahera's tanker is PIS' first Suezmax-sized ship. This ship is intended for international trade routes. This ship is already operational, and has even received global cooperation partners as tenants," said PIS CEO Yoki Firnandi in a statement to the media quoted Thursday, April 4.

Yoki explained that the Pertamina Halmahera ship weighs approximately 156,000 DWT. In terms of weight and size, the Suezmax type is the second largest type after the VLC (Very Large Crude Carrier) type ship owned by PIS.

Since early 2024, PIS has been aggressive in expanding its business, starting with the addition of 2 Pertamina Gas Tubip and Pertamina Gas Bergenia Very Large Carrier (VLGC) fleets, followed by the construction of 15 MR at the same time.

Pertamina Halmahera is a Suezmax ship that is used to transport cargo in the form of crude oil and other similar products, with international shipping routes.

Meanwhile, the two Medium Range (MR) vessels, namely PIS Kalimantan and PIS Java each weigh 50,000 DWT. These two tankers are prepared for international route shipping and transporting bbm products such as Gasoline, Kerosene, Diesel, and others. In addition, these two ships can also be used to transport petrochemical products, including methanol, ethanol, and others.

PIS certainly plans to be more expansive by adding a fleet. PIS, which continues to grow in the domestic market, is in line with the growing energy needs in Indonesia. In addition, the company is also serious about working on the global market to become a calculated energy logistics business player," said Yoki.

Yoki said, PIS is faster running this year to pursue a revenue target of 9 billion US dollars in 2034 and expanding the non-captive market.

The addition of this fleet is a strategic step for PIS to continue to encourage growth. Apart from the expansion and rejuvenation of fleets for the energy transportation business, PIS is also serious about developing other business lines including the energy terminal business and the logistics coastbase," concluded Yoki.
