Held Market Operations, KKP Targets Additional Food Hazardous Materials And Imports Of Fish

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) held a joint supervision operation on additional hazardous food and fish imports that were not in accordance with the designation in Central Java Province, DI Yogyakarta and East Java during Ramadan.

Acting Director General of Marine and Fishery Resources Supervision (PSDKP) Pung Nugroho Saksono or often called Ipunk emphasized to the perpetrators that there is no tolerance for the act of providing additional hazardous foodstuffs, such as formaldehyde and boorax as well as the act of selling imported fish that is not in accordance with the designation.

"Zero tolerance, this dangerous additional ingredient should not be in fishery products," said Ipunk in a written statement received by VOI, Tuesday, March 26.

Ipunk explained that the prohibition on the use of additional food and auxiliary materials that could endanger human health has been strictly regulated in Law Number 45 of 2009 concerning Amendments to Law Number 31 of 2004 concerning Fisheries.

For this reason, he has ordered his staff to pay special attention to the entry of imported fish that are not in accordance with their designation, especially imported fish that are formalized.

"One of the focuses of our attention as fisheries supervisors is ensuring fishery products are free from hazardous food additional ingredients," he said.

To date, there are 61,941 Fish Processing Units (UPI), of which 125 are Foreign Investment (PMA), 1,284 large medium-scale units and 60,519 small micro-scale units.

Meanwhile, throughout 2023, the KKP through the Directorate General of PSDKP has supervised and has imposed administrative sanctions on 8 business actors in the fish processing sector who violate the rules.
