JAKARTA - Equal employment opportunities for people with disabilities are still a major concern in Indonesia.
Through Law Number 8 of 2016, private companies are indeed required to employ at least 1% of people with disabilities from the total workforce. However, this rule has not been maximized.
One of them is the lack of real work training space for students and alumni of the Extraordinary School (SLB) to hone their practical skills.
Seeing this condition, students of the LSPR Institute of Communication & Business class PRDC 27-2TP held AKSI INKLUSI, a Community Development program with the theme "Potential for Inclusion, Get a Profession" which was held in Nassa Valley, Jatimurni, Pondok Melati, Bekasi, on June 19.
This initiative was carried out thanks to close collaboration with the Nassa School with the International Baccalaureate (IB) curriculum which integrates the value of inclusiveness and the Happy Bear Center as an ecosystem of support for children with special needs who are committed to stimulating the potential of students to be able to be independent in the professional environment. As well as the Nassa School Student Council which also plays a role as a supporting committee.
This step by LSPR students is in line with the vision of the campus in building an inclusive and sustainable community. This program also implements the fourth Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) on Quality Education by providing a simulation of the world of work that trains the participants' soft skills and hard skills adaptively.
"Many parents with children with disabilities feel hopeless about their children's future before they graduate from SLB. Through AKSI INKLUSI, we want to break that fear and reassure parents that their children's limitations are not the end of a potential," said AKSI INKLUSI Executive Chair, Ribka Desclara Bintoro.
In line with this, Rizka Septiana, M.Si., Community Development Mentor, stated that the presence of AKSI INKLUSI aims to show the world of industry through proper mentoring, disabled friends have competitive work skills.
As an initial preparation seven days before the peak event, participants had attended a series of Pre-Events in the SLB Al-Gaffar Guchany Hall in the form of a basic Personal Grooming Workshop with LSPR SSNE (School of Special Needs Education) as a Facilitator, to provide education on what needs to be considered when interacting in a professional environment.
Entering the Main Event series, the disabled participants were trained through a job simulation zone in two industrial fields, namely hospitality with ARTOTEL through the introduction of the Food & Beverage (F&B) profession and the practice of making sandwiches. As well as the retail field with IKEA through the simulation of grouping goods based on the shape, color, and packaging of products.
Participants not only receive basic materials, but also directly participate in work simulation practices designed to resemble the daily industrial zone so that they can understand the work experience more realistically. At the end of the event, participants will receive a certificate of participation, as well as professional documentation for their portfolio.
In addition to work simulations for students, this program also presents a talk show session "Recognize and Support the Potential of Disabilities" for parents. This talk show presents Egie Fatmawati, Korwil POTADS Bekasi (Association of Parents of Children with Down Syndrome); Novrian, S.Sos., M.I.Kom, Chairman of the Regional Child Protection Commission (KPAD) Bekasi City; Lidia Wisneli, M.Psi., as a Psychologist Happy Bear Center; and Sekar Ajeng, (Disability Daksa, LSPR Student)
The AKSI INKLUSI program is expected to be the first step in building collaboration between the education sector and the private sector, to create equal employment opportunities.
Through the real support of various parties, this initiative aims to open doors for people with disabilities to contribute independently to the inclusive industry in the future.
