JAKARTA - Minister of Cooperatives and SMEs (Menkop UKM) Teten Masduki encourages the Indonesian National Standards (SNI) regulation for the high-performance motor exhaust industry, aka aftermarket, to be made immediately.

Teten assessed that this was necessary because there was no clear legal umbrella to protect the aftermarket exhaust industry, the majority of which were produced by local MSMEs.

Initially, Teten explained that the urgency of this started with the rampant raids on Brong exhaust users by the police ahead of the 2024 presidential election. Thus, the aftermarket exhaust industry was also affected.

"The background is like this, when during the 2024 presidential election there were those who used Brong exhaust. Yes, the industry was turned off, this is what is not allowed. They were correctly arrested, they were prosecuted. However, this industry should not be killed. Incidentally, the impact has decreased their turnover, even though all of these exhausts are MSME products," said Teten in the Aftermarket Demo Day agenda at the Smesco Building, Jakarta, Monday, March 25.

As a result, Teten said the local exhaust industry needed SNI to encourage protection for the local exhaust industry. Because, he said, the authorities will find it difficult to enforce the law because they are still confused about distinguishing local aftermarket exhausts that are in accordance with standards and Brong exhausts that are not in accordance with government regulations.

"The SNI has not been regulated. (The regulations) do not yet exist. Therefore, so that the basis will be the same (there needs to be regulations). Raid is the basis, right, the rules so that it will be good later," he said.

Teten assessed that the total economic potential of the local exhaust industry was very large, reaching Rp. 60 billion. The amount of turnover is also believed to increase. Therefore, he continued, the government needs to be present for the local exhaust industry.

"If it has been standardized, it will definitely increase (the turnover). If we look at this, this is automotive growth, right, 7.64 percent roughly. If it continues to grow, the use is quite large. If there is an SNI, people are not afraid to buy this (local aftermarket exhaust) because they are not afraid of being raided," he said.

On the same occasion, Deputy for Standard Development of BSN Hendro Kusumo said that his party is ready to complete SNI for aftermarket exhaust this year. "If you follow the needs of the community this year, it is urgent to be pursued (SNI)," he said.

For your information, the Aftermarket Demo Day Knalpot was attended by 11 MSMEs, including Best 3, Arm, Lone Rider, WRX, AHRS, ROB 1, SKR, R 9, Proline, and Daeng with a series of events today consisting of exhaust product exhibitions, noise testing, and emission testing by Planet Ban.

The aftermarket exhaust made by MSMEs has met and paid attention to the threshold set in PermenKLHK number 56 of 2019 that the noise limit is 80 dB for motors with a cubication of 80-175 cc, and 83 dB for motorcycles >175 cc.
