JAKARTA - The Director General of Domestic Trade of the Ministry of Trade (Kemendag) Isy Karim said the price of premium rice for premium rice had not decreased this week. The reason is because the supply is still hampered.
Based on Isy's presentation material, the price of premium rice in Region A, namely Java, Sulawesi, South Sumatra, Lampung, Bali and NTB was recorded at Rp. 16,200 per kilogram (kg). Then, Region B includes other Sumatra, Kalimantan, and NTT Rp. 16,700 per kg. Then, Region C which includes Maluku and Papua is Rp. 18,800 per kg.
The highest retail price (HET) for premium rice is IDR 13,900 per kg. This means that the price of the three regions has exceeded the HET price.
"There is no decline in premium rice in the market. Why? Because this premium rice is the supply that is hampered," said Isy in a discussion with the theme "Preparation of Ramadan, Condition of Price of Basic Materials" which was witnessed virtually, Monday, March 4.

Furthermore, Isy said that premium rice supplies generally come from within the country. Therefore, when supply is hampered it will make prices soar.
"Why is it hampered? Because there is a shift in the harvest season time. Because this premium rice is mostly local rice, Indonesian rice," he said.
"Meanwhile, rice to flood (markets) imported rice in the context of government reserve rice, which in 2024 has been determined to import 2 million tons. Then add another 1.6 million tons in the context of government security," he continued.
