Inaugurating PLN Hydrogen Gas Station, Acting Director General Of EBTKE Reminds BBG Program Failure

JAKARTA - PT PLN (Persero) today inaugurated the Hydrogen Refueling Station (HRS) or the first Hydrogen Charging Station in Indonesia. Present on this occasion, Acting Director General of New Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation (EBTKE) Jisman Hutajulu.

In his remarks, Jisman reminded PLN regarding the previous government program that had failed, Gas Fuel, so that it would not happen to HRS.

For this reason, Jisman asked the PLN board of directors and all its subsidiaries to oversee the green hydrogen program as part of the energy transition to net zero emissions.

"There is a government program that has not succeeded in previous years regarding the use of gas in this transportation, in private vehicles. This is not successful. We hope it will not happen," said Jisman in his remarks at the inauguration of the first Hydrogen gas station in Indonesia, Wednesday, February 21.

Jisman also emphasized the importance of safety in this hydrogen hujau program. According to him, the government and PLN will prioritize the safety side because it is related to public trust.

"Don't let it have an impression or rise to the surface of these safety issues in hydrogen. It's difficult to maintain trust or trust in the community. That's what I entrusted," continued Jisman.

Moreover, he said, hydrogen is expected to be one of the contributors to the energy transition and play an important role in decarbonizing global energy systems and as one of the government's main strategies in running roadmaps or roadmaps towards carbon neutral in 2060.

Jisman also explained that Indonesia has enormous, widespread and diverse EBT potential. The total EBT potential reaches 3,689 GWs with the potential to be used in the production of green hydrogen as a backup or energy storage.

"In addition, hydrogen can also be used in various sectors for the purpose of decarbonization in sectors that are impossible or difficult for dereda such as transportation, long distance, shipping, aviation, steel production, gas heating, industry and manufacturing," concluded Jisman.
