JAKARTA - The construction of Singkawang Airport in Pangmilang Village, Singkawang City, West Kalimantan is targeted for completion this April. The construction progress has reached 95 percent.

This was conveyed by the Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi after checking the progress of airport construction on Sunday, January 28.

During his visit, Budi checked the land and air side of Singkawang Airport, after on Wednesday, January 24, an inaugural calibration flight was carried out with the commercial PK-CAN B200GT Super King Air aircraft from Supadio Airport, Pontianak.

The building progress reaches 95 percent, only interior completion remains. The 1,400 meter long runway has been 100 percent completed. However, there is an extension to 2,000 meters which will be completed in one to two months. So that previously only ATR aircraft can accommodate, later the Airbus A320 aircraft can land here," Budi said in an official statement, Monday, January 29.

Budi said the construction of Singkawang Airport was carried out through a Government and Business Entity Cooperation (PPP) scheme with Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) from local Singkawang entrepreneurs.

"Many Singkawang sons are donors to develop this airport, including the extension of the runway from 1,400 meters to 2,000 meters," he said.

Therefore, Budi also expressed his appreciation to the private sector for participating in the construction of this airport.

"With the limited budget, the government needs support from the private sector to build transportation infrastructure. Singkawang Airport development can be a good example of the collaboration between the central, regional and private governments," he said.

Budi hopes that the construction of Singkawang Airport can increase connectivity, tourism potential, create jobs, business opportunities, and economic growth in West Kalimantan.
