JAKARTA - The Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) said that the achievement of providing access to drinking water properly and comfortably in Indonesia is still a challenge today.

Director General of Human Settlements of the Ministry of PUPR Diana Kusumastuti said that currently access to drinking water is only 91.08 percent and access to drinking water is still safe at 11.08 percent.

"(This figure) is still far away (from the target)," Diana said at the Road to 10th World Water Forum Press Conference: 'The urgency of Access to Drinking Water and Sanitation'," virtually, Tuesday, January 23.

Diana said, especially when talking about access to drinking water properly, the increase is only 1 percent every year. "And the growth rate of piping access has not reached 1 percent over the last 5 years," he said.

Therefore, said Diana, the Ministry of PUPR itself already has a number of policies to overcome this problem.

These policies include increasing service coverage and fulfilling standard drinking water quality, then increasing capacity and the role of implementing drinking water supply systems.

"And of course increasing funding capacity and stakeholder commitment related to funding," he said.

According to Diana, the approach to providing self-drain water can be done by providing water in places that are difficult to water and bringing water closer to the community.

"Meanwhile, the principle of providing drinking water itself must pay attention to 4 things, such as quantity, quality, continuity and affordability," he added.
