Lowering Emissions, Pelindo Implements Green Shipping At Ports

JAKARTA - PT Pelabuhan Indonesia (Persero) or Pelindo through subholding, PT Pelindo Jasa Maritim (SPJM) seeks to reduce emissions on sea transportation. One of them is by implementing green shipping in the port area.

Through PT Pelindo Jasa Maritime (SPJM), Pelindo carries out activities to realize green shipping. For example, providing services in the marine sector, equipment, dredging solutions, shipyards, and utilities services that focus on reducing emissions on sea transportation.

"SPJM always supports Pelindo as the holding in contributing to realizing green shipping through the management of marine services, equipment (equipment), dredging solutions, shipyards (shipyards), and utility services," said the President Director of PT Pelindo Jasa Maritim, Prasetyadi, in an official statement, Friday, January 19.

Prasetyadi said green shipping is a process to reduce emissions produced by lower ship activity. Meanwhile, a green boat is a ship that implements a technology aimed at reducing emissions and increasing energy efficiency simultaneously.

Furthermore, Prasetyadi said Pelindo had prepared and planned for a sustainable port for the next 5 years. This plan will be carried out jointly within the Pelindo Group. Where, targets have been achieved both in the next 10 years and in the long term implementation map.

"We are learning how sustainable initiatives are carried out by leading ports in the world, which could also be carried out in every port of our management," said Prasetyadi.

Prasteyadi said another step taken by Pelindo was electrification or de-dieselization of equipment. Converting the use of fossil-based fuels to environmentally friendly energy sources continues to be increased.

"SPJM will realize an environmentally friendly port or we will also call it a green port through electrification on the equipment and ships we have," said Prasetyadi.

Until now, he continued, electrification in 125 Pelindo managed ports has reached 41 to 59 percent. When viewed from the number of loading and unloading equipment, around 310 have been electrified, it has reached 126 tools and 184 diesel-based tools.

"To reduce the use of fossil fuels when ships dock, SPJM has provided offshore power supply at several terminals that function as electric power suppliers to ships when they dock at the dock," said Prasetyadi.
