Denies Being Hit By Ransomware Attack, KAI: No Evidence

JAKARTA - PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) or KAI has denied any cyber ransomware attacks on the company system that caused a leak of KAI employee and passenger data.

KAI Vice President Public Relations Joni Martinus said there was still no concrete evidence related to the data leak.

"In response to the rumors circulating regarding KAI having been hit by the Ransomware attack, we can convey that until now there has been no evidence that KAI data has been leaked as narrated," he told reporters, in Jakarta, Monday, January 15.

Even so, Joni said KAI was conducting an in-depth investigation related to the truth of information on cyber ransomware attacks targeting the company's system.

"We will continue to conduct in-depth investigations regarding the existence of this information," he said.

Joni also said that the entire IT operational system and online train ticket purchases from KAI are still running well. Joni emphasized that KAI periodically also continues to improve cyber security.

"We also make sure that all KAI data is safe, and until now all IT operational systems and KAI online ticket purchases are still going well," he said.

"KAI periodically continues to improve cybersecurity for the convenience of customers to continue to use the train's mass transportation services that are comfortable, safe and on time," he said.

For your information, information circulated on social media X which was uploaded by an account with the name @TodayCyberNewsexplained that a hacker group claimed to have accessed sensitive data, including employee information, customer details, and others from the Indonesian Railways Company.

Based on the image uploaded by the account, the hacker also asked the government to provide a ransom to retrieve KAI data with a nominal 11.69 bitcoin or around Rp7.7 billion (based on the price of bitcoin Rp657,577,066 per BTC on January 15 at 21:56 WIB).
