OIKN Targets Electricity And Gas Networks At IKN To Start Operations In August 2024

The Capital Archipelago Authority (OIKN) targets the electricity and gas network at IKN Nusantara, East Kalimantan to start operating in August this year.

"It (electricity and gas) is targeted to start operations in August 2024," said Deputy for Facilities and Infrastructure of OIKN Silvia Halim in Jakarta, quoted from Antara, Monday, January 15.

Silvia said that regarding gas for IKN, the provider had been determined by OIKN previously along with electricity, where for electricity by PLN, while gas by PT PGN Tbk.

In addition, he also said that the progress of the development of the Central Government Core Area (KIPP) 1A has now reached 70 percent as a whole.

"Basically, all progress from the construction of KIPP 1A IKN which is targeted for operations in August this year has reached 70 percent. This consists of basic infrastructure such as roads, drainage, drinking water, then government offices as well as ASN flats. This is the whole thing," he said.

In addition to the basic infrastructure built through the APBN, there has also been development carried out by private investors since the first groundbreaking in September 2023 where the construction is running according to schedule and is targeted to be operational in August this year such as hotels and hospitals.

Based on Law no. 3/2022 concerning the State Capital that IKN Nusantara is planned to use a mixture of hydrogen gas and natural gas as a source of city gas to be in line with IKN's vision with net zero emissions.

Although natural gas is considered a source of clean energy, natural gas cannot be updated. Therefore, it is planned that IKN to produce and export solar energy which is equivalent to the amount of energy used from natural gas to achieve Key Performance Indicators or KPI 100 percent of new and renewable energy (EBT).

As a forest city or forest city, IKN Nusantara carries out low-carbon development principles.

This principle is intended to support national policies regarding reducing greenhouse gas emissions and maximizing the role of green open space (RTH) or forests in carbon absorption, as well as to improve air quality that must be supported by the use of new and renewable energy.
