PT PLN (Persero) recorded that electricity sales in 2023 increased to 285.23 terrawat hour (TWh) or grew 5.32 percent year on year (yoy) from 2022 to 270.82 TWh.

PLN President Director Darmawan Prasodjo explained that the achievements obtained by the company were the result of changing the perspective of business development.

"From the former stagnant, backward looking, and only supply-oriented, now it is a dynamic expansionary, forward looking, customer-oriented business development," Darmawan said in a written statement, quoted from Antara, Monday, January 15.

PLN noted that the business segment is one of the main pillars with growth reaching 12.53 percent. Meanwhile, the industrial segment is the largest contributor to electricity sales with 30.72 percent of the total selling energy.

Furthermore, PLN also mentioned positive achievements in 2023, one of which was supported by an extensification strategy carried out by the company. Through this strategy, PLN creates new electricity demand that responds to electricity needs throughout the country.

One of the extensification strategies is carried out through the captive power acquisition program, which is to invite business and industrial customers to switch from using their own power plants to PLN electricity.

During 2023, PLN noted that there were 10 large customers who participated in the captive power acquisition program. In April 2023 there were four companies, namely PT South Pacific in West Java with a power of 33 megavolt amperes (MVA), PT Yamaha Indonesia in West Java with a power of 7.5 MVA, PT Grand Indonesia I in Jakarta with a power of 10.5 MVA, and PT Grand Indonesia II with a power of 11 MVA.

Then, PT Bridgestone Tire in West Java with a power of 9.69 MVA in May 2023. Next, in October 2023 there were four companies, namely PT Pindodeli I in West Java with a power of 45 MVA, PT Pindodeli II in West Java with a power of 45 MVA, PT Indah Kiat Serang in Banten with a power of 58 MVA, PT Aspect Kumbong in West Java with a power of 40 MVA, and PT Indah Kiat Tangerang with a power of 8.66 MVA in Banten.

In addition to customers who have just participated in the captive power acquisition program, there are several companies that have extended the program, namely PT GT Petrochem in Banten with a power of 35 MVA, PT Cheil Jedang in East Java with a power of 95 MVA, PT Cemindo in Banten with a power of 70 MVA, PT Sasa Inti in East Java with a power of 25 MVA, PT Adiprima Suraprinta in East Java with a power of 20 MVA, and PT Plaza Ind Realty in Jakarta with a power of 22 MVA.

Not only the captive power acquisition program, PLN stated that the extensification strategy was also carried out through electrifying agriculture and electrifying marine programs. The program is here to make it easier for business actors in this field to get access to electricity which makes their business more productive and environmentally friendly.

"We are ready to continue to be the driving force for the country's economy by meeting the electricity needs throughout the country, especially for the business and industrial sectors," said Darmawan.
