JAKARTA - The Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) invites students to be involved in internships at a number of residential infrastructure development sites throughout Indonesia.

The Director General of Housing at the Ministry of PUPR, Iwan Suprijanto, said that the millennial generation, especially students in universities in the future, need to be more active in infrastructure and housing development carried out by the government.

"In infrastructure and housing development in Indonesia, of course, it requires an active role from the younger generation, especially students," said Iwan in a written statement, quoted on Saturday, January 13.

Iwan assessed that currently the Ministry of PUPR together with the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology, also opens opportunities for students to participate in the Merdeka Campus Certified Internship Program (MBKM).

"Later on, they will intern at a number of work units at the Ministry of PUPR including the Directorate General of Housing to oversee development according to their majors and learn about how to build a decent house," he said.

He said the Directorate General (Ditjen) of Housing of the Ministry of PUPR had previously opened three batches of MBKM programs which were attended by hundreds of students from various majors and universities.

In the future, said Iwan, his party plans to open an internship slot of up to 800 people and open opportunities for students to internships in infrastructure development projects in all Work Units and Housing Provision Centers spread throughout Indonesia.

Based on data from the Directorate General of PUPR Housing in the MBKM batch 3 program for the period August to December 2022, 246 students have been followed. Meanwhile, batch 4 in the period February-June 2023 was recorded at 365 students and in August-December there were 316 students.

"The Directorate General of Housing of the Ministry of PUPR still opens opportunities for students to participate in the MBKM Program. The period is February to June 2024 and we also invite young entrepreneurs in infrastructure development throughout Indonesia," he said.

Furthermore, said Iwan, in the construction of housing for the people of Indonesia, the Ministry of PUPR also intervened to accelerate the provision of livable houses.
