Pertamina Shipping Adds Two Environmentally Friendly Tankers

PT Pertamina International Shipping (PIS) strengthened its fleet by adding two Very Large Gas Carriers (VLGC), namely a giant gas tanker that will be optimized to transport LPG commodities both at home and abroad.

The 2 VLGCs are VLGC Pertamina Gas Tulip and VLGC Pertamina Gas Bergenia.

Both are the largest gas tankers in the world that use the latest and environmentally friendly technology.

Twin tank measuring 2 footballs each, built at the Hyundai Samho shipyard, South Korea, and officially launched on Tuesday, January 9.

The launch of the two new ships was inaugurated directly by the President Director of PT Pertamina (Persero) Nicke Widyawati, BGN Group CEO Ruya Bayegan, Hyundai President and CEO Samho Heavy Industries Shin totaling Dae, Pertamina International Shipping (PIS) CEO Yoki Firnandi, and witnessed by Pertamina Commissioner Iggi Haruman Achsien and PIS Commissioner Lina Santi.

"The presence of these two VLGC ships can certainly increase Pertamina Group's ability to secure energy supply to support national energy security, as well as with its latest technology as evidence that Pertamina Group is committed to sustainable business," said Pertamina President Director Nicke Widyawati.

This latest VLGC, said Nicke, has also met the requirements to sail in the international arena, so that it can expand market expansion in the global market to make Indonesia proud.

PIS CEO Yoki Firnandi added, PIS as the Sub Holding Integrated Marine Logistics (SH IML) from Pertamina has an important role in ensuring the national energy distribution in Indonesia, which is an archipelagic country, where almost two-thirds of the region is an ocean.

PIS, said Yoki, does plan to continue to add a fleet of tankers for LPG transportation and other gas commodities.

"We plan to add 6 VLGCs in 2024, starting with 2 VLGCs at the beginning of the year, which will also strengthen the position of PIS in the world LPG transportation business. The purchase of the VLGC, which is an environmentally friendly ship, is also in line with our mission to become a logistics maritime company that supports the green energy business," he said.

VLGC's advantages as an environmentally friendly ship include having a dual fuel tank, which allows ships to optimize low-sulfur and gas fuels.

This ship can also transport petrochemical commodities such as ammonia.

The latest technology owned by the VLGC Pertamina Gas Tulip and Pertamina Gas Bergenia ships is also said to be able to increase the speed of ships with the use of fuel and even more efficient up to 16 percent.
