Providing 1.6 Tons Of Fish To Victims Of The Sumedang Earthquake, KKP: To Meet Needs

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) provided 1.6 tons of frozen fish to earthquake victims in Sumedang, West Java. In addition to fish, the KKP also provided assistance of half a ton of rice.

"We express our deep condolences for the earthquake in Sumedang ahead of last year's turn," said Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (Minister of KP) Sakti Wahyu Trenggono in a written statement, Thursday, January 4.

In distributing aid, Trenggono said that his party immediately dispatched a team to Sumedang to coordinate with local governments.

The handover of 1.6 tons of kite fish and half a ton of rice was carried out at the Sumedang District Government-Alun Command Post, on Wednesday night, January 3, 2024, by the KKP's Directorate General of Competitiveness for Marine and Fishery Products (PDSPKP) team and received directly by Plt. Sumedang Regency Regional Secretary.

"Hopefully the assistance of 1.6 tons of kite and rice can help meet the consumption needs of people affected by the earthquake," said Trenggono.

Meanwhile, Director General of PDSPKP Budi Sulistiyo said that until now his party was still at the location to help local governments and people who were still displaced.

Previously reported, based on BMKG data, the earthquake rocked Sumedang on Sunday, December 31, 2023. The earthquake was centered on land 7 kilometers deep (km) with a magnitude of 4.1 SR. After that, there were still aftershocks that were felt quite strongly by the community.

The earthquake resulted in several people being injured, damaged buildings, and displaced communities. However, it is certain that there were no casualties in the disaster.
