Experiencing Operational Challenges, Zenius Startup Officially Closes After 20 Years Of Operation

JAKARTA - Teaching startup (edutech) Zenius officially announced the company's temporary closure after being around for almost 20 years or since 2004.

Since 2004, Zenius has played an important role in realizing the dreams of millions of students to help them enter the university of their dream country.

Zenius said that the company's operational closure was due to operational challenges.

"Currently, Zenius is experiencing operational challenges, and we deeply regret the inconvenience that will cause our users," Zenius said in an official statement, quoted Thursday, January 4.

"We are taking strategic steps to temporarily stop operations, but we guarantee that we will not stop trying to carry out and realize the vision to assemble a smart, bright and fun Indonesia," the statement added.

Zenius did not deny that the company's temporary shutdown decision would disappoint many parties, especially loyal users who have supported and trusted so far.

"We also thank the users who have been an important pillar of our journey since 2004. Their support and trust are invaluable to us. Thank you for being part of Zenius in the last 20 years," the statement concluded.

Based on VOI records, the impact of the mass layoff wave (PHK) in startup companies and global large companies will be increasingly massive in 2022.

At that time, many large companies and technology startups were forced to cut the number of employees.

One of the reasons for the layoffs was due to the decline in the global economy, which Indonesia itself also felt the impact.

One of the teaching startups (edutech) similar to Zenius, Ruangguru, had to take layoffs on hundreds of employees as of Friday, November 18, 2022.

This decision was taken due to the drastic deteriorating global market conditions.

"There are hundreds of Ruangguru employees who have been affected by the termination of this work relationship," said Ruangguru's Corporate Communications Team.

Zenius himself is included in the ranks of startup companies that have also laid off in 2022.
