JAKARTA - Minister of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) Basuki Hadimuljono said the replacement and/or duplication of the Callender Hamilton (CH) bridge on the northern road of Central Java Province (Central Java) was to improve logistics services.

As for the 9 bridges CH in Central Java Province, it has been completely replaced with a construction value of IDR 543.7 billion and an investment value of IDR 1.31 trillion.

"Connections between areas need to be maintained and even improved, one of which is by replacing old bridges so that the flow of goods, services, and human beings can be smoother and more efficient. With good connectivity, it is hoped that regional economic growth will also increase," said Minister Basuki in a written statement received by VOI, quoted Thursday, January 4.

Replacement/dupplication of the CH bridge can also improve road transportation services, especially in supporting the smooth running and convenience of the national road across Central Java-West Java.

The six bridges that were completed were all located on the North Cross of Central Java, namely the Pemali Brebes B bridge with a length of 110 meters (m) stretching on Jalan Raya Pantura and the Pedes B bridge with a length of 60 m on the Prupuk-Batas Tegal section in Brebes Regency, and the Kalibanger A bridge with a length of 30 m on Jalan Raden Patah, Kemijen Village, Semarang City.

Then, there is the 60 m Wonokerto IIA bridge on Jalan Pantura, Demak Regency, the 100 m Juana IA bridge located on the Pantura route, Pati Regency, and the 50 m Pang I bridge in Rembang Regency.

It is known that the six bridges were previously a CH-type steel frame bridge, which was built on average in the 1970s or has passed service age (50 years) and is prone to collapse due to heavy logistics/transport loads.

After the replacement/duplicate was carried out, the six bridges are currently under the Steel Box Girder (SBG)-continuous and Steel I Girder construction with a stronger and more durable service period.

The replacement/duplicate of the CH bridge is one of the Government's Cooperation with Business Entity (PPP) projects between the Directorate General of Highways of the Ministry of PUPR and PT Baja Titian Utama as the Implementing Business Entity and PT Penjaminan Infrastruktur Indonesia (Persero) as guarantor with an implementation period of 2021-2023.

Nationally, the replacement/duplict of the CH bridge as many as 37 bridges has an investment value of up to IDR 5.3 trillion. A total of 37 bridges have been completely completed, namely in Banten Province as many as 3 bridges, West Java as many as 16 bridges, Central Java as many as 9 bridges, and East Java 9 bridges.
