Menparekraf Sandiaga Calls Closing Of Ijen Crater For Sustainable Tourism

Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy (Menparekraf) Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno said his party supports the temporary closure of the Ijen Crater Nature Tourism Park (TWA), East Java.

"So we support measures to ensure quality and sustainable tourism," said Sandiaga Uno as quoted by ANTARA, Wednesday, January 3.

He considered that the closure of the Ijen Crater TWA had considered a number of things before the policy was decided.

Instead, Sandi offers tourist destinations such as tourist villages such as the Kemiren-Banyuwangi tourist village, Baluran National Park, as well as tourist villages around Bondowoso and Situbondo, East Java.

It is known that the Ijen Crater TWA starting January 3, 2024 is temporarily closed for tourist visits in the context of an annual evaluation according to the East Java Natural Resources Conservation Center (BBKSDA) Circular.

"It is true that the Ijen Crater TWA is temporarily closed for evaluation, and we have received a circular letter from BBKSDA," said Head of the Banyuwangi Regency Culture and Tourism Office Muhammad Yanuarto Bramuda, in Banyuwangi, East Java, Tuesday, January 2.

Bramuda said that the Ijen Crater TWA could not be determined when it would be reopened for visitors or tourists, because it was still waiting for the results of the evaluation and coordination meeting of BBKSDA which will be held in Surabaya on Wednesday, January 3.

The closure of one of the mainstay destinations in Banyuwangi is stated in Circular Number SE.01/K2/BIDTEK.1/KSA/01/2024, regarding the closure of the Ijen Crater TWA Area.

Head of KSDA Region III Purwantono explained the closure of the Ijen Crater TWA in the context of evaluating natural tourist visits during 2023 and preparing for visit activities in 2024.
