JAKARTA - Minister of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) Basuki Hadimuljono accompanied President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) to inaugurate three (3) Callender Hamilton Bridge (CH) located in the national road network system and logistics lines in the Province of South Central Java.

President Jokowi said the construction of the bridge with type CH was part of the program to rejuvenate bridges on the island of Java because the service lifespan had exceeded 40 years.

This is at the same time an effort to mitigate the risk of the bridge collapsing due to the impact of overloading.

Nationally, the Callender Hamilton Bridge replacement/duplicate project was carried out by the Ministry of PUPR as many as 37 bridges spread across Java Island.

"With this development, it will improve, revitalize bridges which are already time to be updated because of the transportation burden, the logistics burden on the bridge is getting tougher day by day," Jokowi said in a written statement, Tuesday, January 2.

Jokowi hopes that the presence of these three new CH-type bridges can strengthen connectivity between regions in Southern Central Java, facilitate inter-regional transportation flows, streamline logistics costs and encourage economic growth in surrounding areas.

"We hope that with this new bridge, the mobility of goods and people will be more secure in safety, as well as the speed," he said.

Meanwhile, PUPR Minister Basuki Hadimuljono said that the replacement/duplicating work of the CH bridge through the KPBU scheme was an innovation effort to maintain long-term bridge services.

"Not only toll roads and national roads, but bridges also have an important role to serve transportation, goods, and human beings. God willing, the results will be very good, very satisfying if KPBU is carried out on time," he said.

The three bridges that were inaugurated were the 150-meter-long Tamum Margasana Bridge (m) which stretched on the Wangon-Replaced National Road connecting Banyumas Regency with Cilacap Regency. The cost of this bridge construction is IDR 72 billion.

Then, the 140 m Tajum Karanggang Bridge located on Jalan Nasional Wangon-Ajibarang, Banyumas Regency. Replacement of the Tajum Karangbawang bridge worth IDR 88.8 billion.

Finally, there is a 160 m long Jurug B Bridge located on Jalan Raya Palur which was built at a construction cost of Rp90 billion.

The presence of the Callender Hamilton bridge on national roads connecting Surakarta City with Karanganyar and Sragen Regencies will increase connectivity in supporting regional economic development, especially the Tawangmangu tourism route in Karanganyar.
