JAKARTA - The Minister of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) has opened his voice regarding the use of steel frames in the Jakarta-Cikampek (Japek) Elevated Toll Road construction project or Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed (MBZ) Toll Road.
Basuki assessed that the use of steel frames was not a problem. This is because many other toll road projects also use steel frames and have been tested safe, namely the Tomang Toll Road and the Cikunir Toll Road.
"Well, it's safe, it's been tested for certification, if there is a Tomang Toll Road. So, there is no problem between steel and concrete. On the Tomang Toll Road it's steel, in Cikunir steel," said Basuki when met at the DPR RI Building, Jakarta, Tuesday, November 21.
Basuki ensured that the MBZ Toll Road was in good condition and was in accordance with security standards.
The reason is, the toll road has been tested by the Panjang Bridge Security Committee and the PUPR Ministry Street Tunnel.
"In our opinion (the Ministry of PUPR) has no risk, it has been tested by the Panjang Bridge Security Committee and Road Tunnel, there is already a certificate," he said.
He added that other safety factors were because only Class I vehicles were allowed to cross the bridge. Remember, there is no rest area or rest area on the top MBZ toll road.
"So, it is in accordance with security standards. That's just a technical choice, it can be steel concrete, if steel will be faster (the completion of the project)," he added.
