Erick Thohir Calls Many SOE Commissioners Resigning Because They Participate In The Campaign Team

JAKARTA - Minister of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) Erick Thohir revealed that many of the commissioners of state-owned companies resigned because they became a campaign team for presidential and vice presidential candidates (cawapres) in the 2024 election.

Erick said he would record who resigned from the position of commissioner of the state-owned company. Next, a replacement will be sought for the position left behind.

Furthermore, Erick said that one of those who chose to resign from the commissioner position was Muhammad Arief Rosyid Hasan. Arief previously served as PT Bank Syariah Indonesia Tbk (BSI).

"Indeed, he chose (to resign), I have to respect it. That's why we will look for the change of commissioners later. Indeed, it's not only Arief Rosyid's brother, many commissioners have resigned, I'm still collecting data," he said when met at the Ministry of SOEs, Jakarta, Thursday, November 9.

Erick said that the boss and employees of state-owned companies involved in the campaign in the 2024 general election (Pemilu) had to resign.

This prohibition is contained in Circular (SE) Number S-560/S.MBU/10/2023 concerning the Involvement of the Board of Directors, Board of Commissioners/Supervisory Board and Employees of the State-Owned Enterprises Group in the Implementation of General Elections, Regional Head Voters, and/or as Political Party Managers or Regional Head Officials and Deputy Regional Heads. The SE was issued on October 27, 2023.

"If you enter the campaign team, you have to step down, we have to remind you. Because of the rules, the law (forbids campaigns)," he said.
