JAKARTA - The Unmanned Systems and Technology Association (ASTTA) said that the market potential for drones or unmanned aircraft in Indonesia will reach 93 million US dollars in 2028 out of a total of 48.6 billion US dollars for the world drone market potential.

"With a market value of that size, the local drone industry should be able to dominate the market," said ASTTA Deputy Chairperson Asha Wadya Saelan in a written statement received by VOI, Thursday, October 26.

Seeing this great potential, Indonesian drone manufacturer PT Bentara Tabang Nusantara (BETA-UAS) collaborated with Rohde & Schwarz, a world-class electronics company from Germany, which focuses on business cooperation and market segments for Aerospace Defense Technology (ADT), Wireless Industrial Communication (WIC), and Industrial Component and Research (ICR).

"The signing of the BETA UAS collaboration with Rohde & Schwarz strengthens Indonesia's position as a Drone Manufacturing Hub in Asia that is trusted and able to compete globally," he said.

In this way, the Ministry of Industry also supports the development and transformation of the domestic drone industry to make it more innovative, competitive and global, one of which is by facilitating ASTTA to participate in a prestigious international exhibition, namely Industrial Transformation Asia-Pacific (ITAP) 2023 in Singapore.

Apart from showing the technological capabilities, research and development of the drone industry in Indonesia, this event also opens up opportunities to build international cooperative relations.

"The drone industry is part of the transportation equipment industry group which has experienced significant growth above national economic growth since the second quarter of 2021," said Director General of the Metal, Machinery, Transportation Equipment and Electronics Industry (ILMATE) of the Ministry of Industry, Taufiek Bawazier.

Taufiek added that in the second quarter of 2023, growth in the transportation equipment industry had reached 9.66 percent.

"This positive growth is caused by the influence of various strategic government policies in creating a conducive business climate, as well as implementing the Making Indonesia 4.0 program," he said.

According to him, the drone industry in Indonesia has been able to develop and produce unmanned technology that can be used in various sectors, such as plantations, military and surveillance.

"For this reason, we will promote and support the technological progress of the domestic drone industry through exhibitions and forums at national and international levels which are expected to expand cooperation networks and market expansion," he said.

Taufiek believes that the drone industry needs to transform and continue to follow the latest technological developments.

"This is the basis for our collaboration with ASTTA in participating in ITAP 2023 activities," he added.
