PLN Launches Carbon Trading Digital Platform And Decarbonization Governance

PT PLN (Persero) launched the PLN Climate Click platform as an instrument to support the inter-powering carbon trade in Indonesia. Through the platform that has been running since September 8, the public can monitor the development and decarbonization steps being carried out by PLN on a regular basis.

PLN President Director Darmawan Prasodjo explained that carbon trading has become a trend in the global arena, Indonesia has also initiated this as an effort to reduce and control carbon emissions that can be monitored directly.

"The launch of the PLN Climate Click application is a form of PLN's commitment to supporting government programs in achieving the Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) in 2030, and achieving Net Zero Emissions (NZE) in 2060," said Darmawan, Friday, September 15.

Darmawan explained that the PLN Climate Click platform is also expected to be a form of technology utilization as a tool in an effort to adapt to climate change and also reduce its negative impact.

"By using digital technology to collect and analyze data, it is hoped that we can take better, precise, fast and effective decisions and actions," said Darmawan.

The innovation carried out by PLN is also part of PLN's commitment to support efforts to deal with climate change whose impact has begun to be felt. This application is also a form of strengthening PLN's climate change governance.

Furthermore, the Director of PLN System Transmission and Planning, Evy Haryadi, explained that the data will also be presented in this application in the form of an inventory of GRK scope 1 (direct emissions), Scope 2 and 3 (indirect emissions).

"Then, the emission trade and carbon offsets, climate change mitigation actions, and climate change adaptation actions within the PLN Group," said Haryadi.

In carrying out carbon trading, Haryadi added, PLN is guided by the NEK implementation regulations, and currently PLN has at least five company entities that play a role in the implementation of NEK as part of the Company's business development.

The five entities are PT PLN Indonesia Power (IP) and PT PLN Nusantara Power (NP) which acts as actors in carbon trading, PT PLN ICON Plus as providers and developers of carbon trading platforms, PT Energy Management Indonesia (EMI) as management office for carbon trading, and PLN Pusertif as a validation and verification institution.
