Jabodebek LRT Experiences Disturbance, Jokowi: Don't Make Fun Of Our Own Products

JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) asked the public not to be afraid to use the Jabodebek Integrated Highway Train (LRT) even though they had experienced a number of disturbances in the first week of operation.

"That there is a shortage, yes, that's a correction, we will evaluate it... the evaluation is from INKA and KAI," Jokowi said as quoted by Antara, Thursday, August 31.

As is known, the Jabodebek LRT train experienced disruptions starting from the train door and blackouts at Halim Station.

"Don't make fun of our own products. Who else wants to be proud if we're not users? That sometimes there are traffic jams, fix it, that there is a shortage of design, fix it... it has to be like that," he said.

According to Jokowi, the disruption is a lesson in the operation of the fast train system.

"In Japan, what is the direct car as good as it is today? (The process) is decades old. Shinkansen is also in the process for decades, TGV (train) is the same as that. I know because I came to them to find out the stages," said Jokowi.

Previously, PT KAI as the operator had apologized to the public regarding the inconvenience experienced by LRT passengers, such as the braking process that still exists, the accumulation of passengers due to technical problems such as train doors being unable to be closed, air conditioning and power outages, as well as several information board facilities that are not functioning optimally.

PT KAI noted that the Jabodebek LRT had served 28,925 passengers as of Tuesday, August 29, since its inauguration on Monday, August 28.
