JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) said Indonesia has great potential to develop a green economy. This is to reduce the impact of climate change.

"The world economy is now transforming into a green economy, financing now runs mainly to the green industry, energy use also switches everything to green energy because we all want to reduce the impact of climate change," Jokowi said quoting Antara.

Among Indonesia's several potentials, Jokowi said the geothermal potential was 24 thousand megawatts, the hydropower of 95 thousand megawatts from 4,400 rivers throughout the country, solar panels of 169 thousand megawatts, and wind power of 68 thousand megawatts.

With these various potentials, he is optimistic that Indonesia can attract more investment in the green economy sector.

Moreover, Indonesia is building a green industrial area, one of which is in North Kalimantan with a total area of 30 thousand hectares which will use water energy from the Kayan River in the area.

"This strength, if we use it properly, will become a strength for our country, because other countries do not have that much energy potential, 434 thousand megawatts (new renewable energy potential) are great strength," said Jokowi.

Furthermore, the Head of State reminded the responsibility of the entire community to continue to be consistent with Indonesia's vision and strategy in competing with other countries.

"This is a challenge as well as opportunity. The Downstream (industry) that I often convey everywhere, if we are consistent, we will be able to make this country soar into a developed country," said Jokowi.
