Trying Jabodebek LRT, Sri Mulyani Admits He's Nervous

Minister of Finance (Menkeu) Sri Mulyani admitted that she was nervous when trying the Jabodebek Integrated Highway (LRT) with President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) today. This is because the train was driven without a driver.

As is known, President Jokowi has just inaugurated the Jabodebek LRT. Before being inaugurated, Jokowi again tested the Jabodebek LRT with the Ministers of the Advanced Indonesia Working Cabinet from Harjamukti Station, Cimanggis, Depok.

"I'm certainly excited because we are used to getting used to it in my personal experience, if you take the train there is always a driver," he said while trying out the Jabodebek LRT, quoted from the Presidential Secretariat's YouTube, Monday, August 28.

Furthermore, Sri Mulyani said that the presence of mass transportation shows that technology can answer problems that exist in society.

"But we believe that this technology has been managed both in terms of safety, security, and timeliness. So this is also a lesson for the community that technology can solve problems," he said.

The woman who is familiarly called Ani hopes that with the Jabodebek LRT, the public can switch from private vehicles to public transportation. Moreover, the LRT is also associated with other transportation modes. Thus, it can reduce air pollution.

"We hope that by using more and more public transportation facilities, we will certainly reduce mobility using private cars and improve the quality of the air in the Jabodetabek area," he said.

Not only Sri Mulyani, BUMN Minister Erick Thohir also said that this mass transportation made people nervous, because the train was run without a driver or driverless driver. Even so, Erick ensured that this driverless system was safe because it had passed the test worthy of operation.

"This is a technological progress that I think some people are still nervous. Technology has been carried out without a machinist, that doesn't mean it's not safe," he said.

Currently, said Erick, public transportation is the government's main concentration. Therefore, Erick ensures that the authorities continue to improve basic infrastructure and supporting facilities for public transportation modes.

"Indeed, public transportation is the priority at this time, whether MRT, LRT, and supporting facilities continue to be improved, because indeed returning as a city that is one of the largest in the world out of population, yes, public facilities are a priority," he said.
