Timor Leste Present at ASEAN Finance Ministers Meeting, Sri Mulyani: We Warmly Welcome

JAKARTA – The Minister of Finance (Minister of Finance) Sri Mulyani revealed that a meeting at the ASEAN Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors Meeting (AFMGM) in Jakarta this week was also attended by a Southeast Asian country, Timor Leste.

According to her, the presence of a "sister country" is an important marker in Timor Leste's journey to be able to unite with the ASEAN community.

"This is the second AFMGM meeting under Indonesian chairmanship, and this time it was held in Jakarta. I also warmly welcome Timor Leste as an observer at this meeting for the first time," she said today in Jakarta, Friday, August 25.

Minister of Finance explained, the 2023 period marked the 5th ASEAN chairmanship for Indonesia. It was stated that this year the financial cooperation agenda continues to be strengthened in the spirit of togetherness.

"Our association will facilitate our connection with each other with this fairly close arrangement," she said.

Minister of Finance added, if this very good progress can continue the next targets.

“In particular, we would like to hear from Laos about prioritized economic deliverables for their ASEAN chairmanship next year. Hopefully, an easy and smooth transition between Indonesian leadership to Lao PDR. We need to increase our resilience," concluded Minister of Finance Sri Mulyani.
