JAKARTA - Minister of Industry (Menperin) Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita socialized the Eco-Industrial Park (EIP) program to support the global vision in efforts to reduce emissions generated by industrial activity.

The socialization of the development of the EIP area was carried out in a series of Business Forum on 50 Years of Indonesia-Korea Relations: Development Closer Friendship and Stronger Partnership through Enhanced Trade & Industry Cooperation which was held in collaboration with the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia (KBRI) Seoul, the Ministry of Trade (Kemendag), and the Ministry of Investment / Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM).

"The Ministry of Industry has supported the implementation of EIP in Indonesia with various regulations and laws to encourage an environmentally friendly management system in order to realize the concept of the green industry," said Minister of Industry Agus in his official statement, Friday, August 11.

Minister of Industry Agus said that the EIP development program had a major impact on sustainable environmental conservation in the industrial sector.

This is in line with Indonesia's commitment to building a global competitive manufacturing industry through the acceleration of industrial implementation 4.0.

"Currently, there are three projects of the Global Eco-Industrial Park (GEIPP-Indonesia) program, namely the MM2100 Industrial Estate, the Batamindo Industrial Estate, and the Karawang International Industrial City (KIIC)," he said.

The Indonesia-South Korea business forum was held to strengthen industrial and trade cooperation, especially efforts to promote Industrial Estates and Special Economic Zones, market access, exports of fresh products, development of upstream and downstream industrial ecosystems, and various other important activities to support national economic development.

The Business Forum, which will be held on July 25, 2023, has also brought together more than 250 representatives of Indonesian and South Korean companies.

According to Minister of Industry Agus, the potential for trade and industrial cooperation between Indonesia and South Korea is still quite large. In the forum business activities, the two countries offer an attractive investment climate.

The strong industrial base and technological advances of Korea can attract Indonesian investors who are looking for opportunities for cooperation, technology transfer, and opportunity for knowledge sharing.

On the other hand, Korean companies can explore investment prospects in various sectors in Indonesia, including infrastructure development, energy, manufacturing, digital economy, and tourism.

South Korea is an important economic partner for Indonesia. The total trade turnover between the two countries reached 24.5 billion US dollars throughout 2022, an increase of 33.2 percent compared to the previous year.

There are six sectors that are attracting South Korean investors to invest in Indonesia, namely electricity, water and gas, vehicles, footwear and skin, textiles, and mining.
