JAKARTA - The Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) will hold the Indonesia Food Innovation (IFI) 2023.

This is expected to encourage innovation of the Small and Medium Industries (IKM) in the food sector.

The IFI program will attract food IKM participants from two categories, namely the intermediate product category for food SMEs that produce intermediate products as food industry supply chains.

Then, there is also the end product category for food SMEs that produce processed food products for the needs of end consumers.

The Director General of Small, Medium and Multifarious Industries (IKMA) of the Ministry of Industry, Reni Yanita, revealed that many food and beverage IKMs have difficulty getting up in class due to limited capital, unprofessional management, lack of standard and legality of business, and limited innovation.

"From the external side, IKM is also faced with various challenges in running its business, such as uncertainty in the supply of raw materials, the presence of competitors and new products, as well as very volatile market demand," said Reni in Jakarta, quoted on Thursday, August 10.

In order to face challenges as well as opportunities for IKM, the Ministry of Industry seeks to encourage and facilitate food and beverage IKM players to get proper guidance and assistance from experts in business and technical fields through this IFI program.

"Thus, these food and beverage IKM players can accelerate their business towards modern marketing, profitable, and sustainable IKM, leading to an increase in business scale," he said.

IFI registration itself starts from August 8 to September 21, 2023. The registrants will be curated by the Directorate General of IKMA and experts.

Furthermore, 40 IKM registrants who pass the curation will take part in the IFI Food Camp for approximately one month.

The assessors will determine each of the three best participants from each category after going through the food camp process.

As for 2022, the Directorate General of IKMA at the Ministry of Industry noted that there were 2,091 registrants who participated in the IFI program selection and 20 participants were selected.

A total of 20 participants received guidance in the food business scale-up stage through coaching, mentoring, and facilitation in three aspects, namely management, legal aspects, and networking.
