Increase Mangole Port Efficiency And Productivity, Meratus Do This

The Meratus Group through PT Multi Sarana Pelabuhan Indonesia has officially collaborated on the management of Sampoerna Kayoe's Special Terminal (Tersus), which in this case PT Mangole Timber Producers (MTP) on Thursday, August 3.

This collaboration is carried out to increase the efficiency and productivity of Mangole Port in Mangoli Regency, North Maluku (Malut). In addition, this collaboration needs to be carried out to serve the downstream homecoming of the main raw materials and the results of wood processing in the form of plywood and wood pellets.

Meratus CEO Farid Belbouab said that in the future, Meratus would take full responsibility for all port operational activities.

"We hope that this cooperation will be established in a long time," he said in Jakarta, quoted Friday, August 4.

Farid believes that his party will be able to manage the special terminal owned by Mangold Timber because Meratus itself has qualified human resources (HR) in this field.

"This collaboration is also about shipping services with the aim of promoting processed wood produced thoroughly from Indonesia for the export market," he said.

Adapun bentuk pengelolaan yang akan dioperasikan oleh Meratus, yakni mulai dari manajemen lalu lintas kapal dan seluruh kendaraannya, fasilitas pelayanan dan keamanan, semua hal terkait perizinan dan regulasi, hingga manajemen SDM.

"All these activities are expected to have a positive impact on operational efficiency and reliability at Mangole Port," he said.

Furthermore, said Farid, the company recruitment process will also be carried out professionally by empowering local communities and employees outside the region.

"This is done in order to create an increase in population, an increase in the economy whose impact can be felt by the community and regions," he concluded.

According to the plan, the first management of the Special Terminal at Mangole Port by the Meratus Group will begin to be tested at the end of September 2023.

Later, every month there will be a cargo of more than 600 TEUs for export delivery purposes, especially covering countries such as Japan, South Korea, the United States, and others.

Meanwhile, PT Mangole Timber Producers itself has products in the form of plywood and wood pellets, in which the main raw materials are supplied from the industrial plantation forest (HTI) itself which implements an integrated system between the production process and the source of wood raw materials. PT Mangole Timber Producers will produce plywood of 200,000 cubic meters per year and wood pellets of 170,000 tons per year.

This business is known to be one of the pillars of economic buffers in the North Maluku region, and has the potential to create new jobs for around 3,500 local communities in the region.
