Carrying The Spirit To Grow Together, Danamon Plants 10,000 Mangrove Trees On Tirang Beach

JAKARTA - PT Bank Danamon Indonesia Tbk (Danamon) carries the theme "TUMBUH TOGETHER" in celebration of its age at 67 years. As a bank that has a vision for Peduli and Help Millions of People to Achieve Welfare, Danamon through the Danamon Peduli program collaborates with the Indonesian Good Seed Foundation to plant 10,000 mangrove trees on Tirang Beach, Semarang. In this activity, Danamon involved more than 100 employees of the Danamon Region Central Java or commonly called Danamoners to go directly to the field along with the Semarang City Government. Present in this planting, the Head of the Environment Agency, FX. Bambang, S.Sos representing the Mayor of Semarang; Herry Hykmanto, Director of Syariah & Sustainability Finance Danamon; Dadi Budiana, Director of Risk Management Danamon; Abdul Hadi, Sustainability Finance Head Danamon; Samuel Sugeng Rijadi, Regional Head of Central Java Danamon; and Farhan Prastiyan, Parnership Manager of the Good Seed Foundation of Indonesia. Ain addition to commitment to customer financial needs, employee growth and also the wider community, Danamon also has a commitment to grow together the community that has become Danamon's partner in running programs and sustainable business development. Through Danamon Care program, Danamon actively campaigns for carbon emission reduction initiatives and encourages employee active engagement in achieving net zero carbon emissions targets, one of which is through mangrove planting activities. Since 2022 until now, Danamon has planted 32,500 mangroves including planting on Tirang Semarang Beach, said Herry Hykmanto, Director of Syariah & Sustainability Finance Danamon, in his statement, Saturday 22 July. Mangrove has several significant benefits for environmental sustainability. In addition to playing a natural infrastructure that helps protect adjacent regions by reducing erosion and absorbing the impact of storm waves during extreme weather, mangroves also serve as carbon dioxide absorbers and helps against climate change.

Mangroves also screen pollutants from water and provide habitat for various wildlife species. Furthermore, mangroves also contribute to natural-based economies. It is hoped that this initiative can maintain the balance of coastal ecosystems, which have a positive impact on the welfare of local communities, especially the economy of milkfish farmers in the Tirang Beach area.

The collaboration with the Good Seed Foundation in Indonesia was chosen because of the support of the TanamKebaikan platform developed by the BenihBaik.com team. It is hoped that the use of this digital platform will facilitate monitoring of mangrove growth and the projected absorption of carbon can be calculated more accurately.

In addition to the company's external-focused CSR program, Danamon believes internal action also contributes to making the company more environmentally friendly. This translates with Danamon's commitment to achieving carbon emission netzero in operational activities by 2030.
