Kadin Indonesia Wants To Control The World Muslim Fashion Market Through Jakarta Muslim Fashion Week

JAKARTA - As one of the countries with the largest Muslim population in the world, Indonesia has spilled over resources for the Muslim fashion industry, especially local designer talents. This capital allows Indonesia to dominate the world market.

One of the businesses carried out was to hold the Jakarta Muslim Fashion Week (JMFW). Deputy Chairperson of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin), Juan Permata Adoe, called JMFW an effort to dominate the world's Muslim fashion market.

"Currently, Indonesia is still 5th in order to export the Muslim fashion industry, first in China, so we have to start thinking about lifting our position, together building an export market through the creative industry, one of which is JMFW," Juan said at the launch of JMFW 2024 in Jakarta, Friday, June 23.

The world's Muslim population, Juan explained, reaches nearly two billion people, while its sales market value reaches US$3 trillion, or around Rp45 quadrillion.

Juan said the ferocity of the industrial business flow also has a very large multiplicating effect on other slice industries, such as the cosmetics, medicines, and even the herbal industry.

"Our hope is that with this JMFW we will build enthusiasm for the local fashion industry, we must seize the global market and we are sure that its impact on other industries will also definitely increase," he added, quoted from ANTARA.

Furthermore, Juan said that the most prestigious annual Muslim fashion event in the country must continue to be carried out regularly at least more than five times. With that figure, said Juan, the world will see Indonesia's seriousness in the Muslim fashion industry.

The 2024 JMFW is a collaboration between the Ministry of Trade with the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and the Indonesian Fashion Chamber (IFC) which will be held on an annual basis since 2021.

This year's JMFW activity consists of fashion performances, trade fairs, trade agreement assessments, and talk titles that present around 1,000 collections from a number of local designers.

JMFW 2024 will be held at ICE BSD, Tangerang, Banten, on 19-21 October 2023 on the sidelines of the Trade Expo Indonesia (TEI) event.
