JAKARTA - Tunas Sawa Erma Group (TSE Group) as one of the companies engaged in oil palm in Indonesia has committed to contributing to global efforts to achieve Net Zero Emissions (NZE) by 2050.
This commitment was carried out on the basis of TSE Group's awareness and belief that NZE could only be achieved through cooperation and innovation from all parties involved in the value chain of oil palm.
As a tangible manifestation of this commitment, the TSE Group uses the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) as the standard for setting NZE targets. SBTi is an initiative to develop and promote scientific methodologies in order to set emission targets in accordance with the Paris Agreement.
Using SBTi, the TSE Group will set its emission targets and things needed to limit global warming below 1.5$C. The TSE Group will then report progress transparently and consistently through the SBTi platform as well as other relevant mechanisms.
"We will draw up our near-term and long-term emission targets within the next two years. These targets will cover all of our operational activities and supply chains, as well as take into account the potential for carbon absorption from the land and forests that we manage," said TSE Group Director Luwy Leuufna in a written statement, Thursday, May 4.
TSE Group will also follow Indonesian government regulations to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and contribute to Indonesia's Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) target. Please note, NDC is the commitment of every country to the Paris Agreement.
At this national commitment, Indonesia is committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 29 percent by 2030 compared to the business as usual scenario or 41 percent with international assistance.
"We support the efforts of the Indonesian government to achieve this NDC and we are ready to collaborate with other stakeholders to encourage the transition to a low-carbon economy," said Luwy.
By taking these steps, Tunas Sawa Erma Group hopes that it will not only have a positive impact on the environment and climate, but also on the social and economic welfare of the people who depend on the palm oil industry.

"So, in the future it will be an inspiration for other companies in the palm oil sector to join the NZE movement," he added.
For your information, NZE or zero carbon emissions are conditions where the amount of carbon emissions released into the atmosphere does not exceed the amount of emissions that are absorbed by the earth.
To achieve this, a transition from the energy system used now to the clean energy system is needed to achieve a balanced condition between human activities and natural balance. Therefore, the government is preparing a roadmap to realize NZE in order to face various challenges and risks of climate change in the future.
