Inflation During Eid 2023 Even Down To 4.33 Percent

JAKARTA The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reported that general inflation (consumer price index / IHK) in April 2023 was 4.33 percent year on year (yoy).

Inflation in the Lebaran period was even lower when compared to the previous two months, namely March 2023 at 4.97 percent and February 2023 at 5.47 percent.

Head of BPS Margo Yuwono said the main contributor to inflation on an annual basis was due to the increase in the price of food, beverage, tobacco, clothing and footwear groups, housing, equipment, transportation, recreation, sports, to restaurants and personal care.

"Meanwhile, expenditure groups are experiencing a decline in the index, namely information, communication, and financial services groups," he said during a press conference today, Tuesday, May 2.

Margo explained that although it has decreased on an annual basis, monthly inflation has increased. According to him, the inflation rate month to month (mtm) April 2023 is 0.33 percent and the year to date (y-to-d) inflation rate in April 2023 is 1.01 percent.

The most monthly inflation is contributed by air transport rates. Followed by intercity transportation rates, gold jewelery commodities, broiler meat, rice, and filtered kretek cigarettes," he said.

Margo added, for core inflation last month it was recorded at 2.83 percent yoy or lower than March 2022 which was at the level of 2.94 percent. Then, volatile price inflation fell from 5.83 percent to 3.74 percent in April 2023.
