BIAK - The Integrated Marine Fisheries Center (SKPT) of Biak Numfor Regency, Papua, from January to April 2023 has exported seven tons of fresh Yellowfin tuna to Japan.
"Exports of fresh tuna to Japan through the Narita International Airport have started to reopen every week," said Head of the Biak Fisheries Service Numfor Effendi Igrisa as quoted from Antara, Sunday, April 9.
He said, until now the demand for fresh tuna exports has been made through SKPT Biak through private fisheries business partner PT Indo Numfor Pasifik.
Effendi admitted that before being sent to Japan, the tuna unloaded from the ship had undergone an integrated cold chain process with the cleaning of the gills, guts, and grading of the sashimi at the Fish Processing Unit (UPI) by quality control officers by checking the quality starting from the texture and color of the fresh tuna meat.
"Exports of fresh tuna from Biak Numfor with the best quality are expected to continue to increase in line with market demand in the destination country of Japan," hoped the Head of the Fisheries Office Effendi.
The Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries of the Republic of Indonesia (KKP) has made efforts to develop the marine and fisheries sector in Biak Numfor Regency, namely, building the Biak SKPT starting in 2017 with intervention activities through the provision of infrastructure in the form of the construction of an Integrated Frozen Warehouse (ICS) with a capacity of 200 tons.
As well as building a Fish Landing Base (PPI), supporting infrastructure at PPI Fandoi, and procuring facilities in the form of 100 3GT vessels along with fishing gear and GPS, refrigerated vehicles, chest freezers, and cool boxes to maintain the quality of fishermen's catches.
