JAKARTA - The Bali Provincial Government (Pemprov) is aiming to expand the export market share of a number of products from the Island of the Gods in the ASEAN region because of the great potential as the COVID-19 pandemic is under control.
"In the last five years, the average increase in exports of Balinese products to ASEAN countries has reached 11.75 percent," said Head of Foreign Trade at the Bali Industry and Trade Service (Disperindag) Ni Wayan Lestari in Denpasar, quoted from Antara, Saturday, April 8th.
To boost market share, a number of efforts were made, including trade promotions targeting potential countries and countries with established export markets in Southeast Asia.
In addition, efforts to foster and empower business actors to increase the competitiveness of export-oriented products to meet market needs in ASEAN.
Apart from the trade volume and value side, the Provincial Government of Bali is also aiming to expand export products, which so far have contributed the most to horticultural products and fishery products.
The Bali Industry and Trade Office noted that based on the certificate of origin (SKA) for Bali export products in 2022, out of 10 countries in ASEAN, the three countries with the largest value received Bali exports, namely Thailand for US$11.6 million, Vietnam for US$5.78 million and the Philippines for 2.15 million US dollars.
From the SKA data, the total export value in 2022 to ASEAN will reach US$23.25 million, an increase compared to the 2021 realization of US$10.9 million.
Meanwhile, the Head of the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) for Bali Province Hanif Yahya said Balinese products have great potential to be absorbed by the ASEAN market because the culture is not much different.
"Looking at the market share, let alone ASEAN and Indonesia and Bali have the same culture, for example food, of course, many products from Bali are wanted by the ASEAN community. This has become one of Bali's export magnets," said Hanif.
BPS Bali noted that the realization of Bali's export value in ASEAN in 2022 reached US$104.3 million, a significant increase compared to 2021 reaching US$31 million.
This value was in third place after the Americas which reached 229.5 million US dollars and Europe 114.6 million US dollars.

BPS noted that Singapore and Thailand are among the top 10 export destinations for Bali to ASEAN with a realized value of US$67.2 million and US$19.3 million respectively.

The total import value in Bali in 2022 will reach US$82.6 million, an increase compared to 2021 reaching US$35.9 million.
