Telkomsel Optimizes Data Services To Anticipate Traffic Surge During Ramadan And Eid 2023

JAKARTA - Telkomsel optimizes broadband networks or data services to anticipate a surge in customer communication traffic during Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr 1444 Hijri.

President Director of Telkomsel Hendri Mulya Syam in his statement, in Palembang, Saturday, March 25, said Telkomsel projects that there will be significant movements in customer communication traffic during the month of Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr 1444 Hijri. For data/wideband service traffic, it is estimated that it will increase to 11.2 percent compared to normal days.

This growth is estimated from the growth of public digital activities during the month of Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr 1444 Hijri, such as access to social media services which soared to 6.2 percent, communication services (instant messaging and video conference) to 20 percent.

Then, video streaming services grew 15.6 percent, mobile gaming services rose 32.4 percent, browsing access jumped 2.4 percent, and e-Commerce service access increased by seven percent. As for voice call service traffic, it is projected to experience a decrease of 8.5 percent and short messaging services (SMS) grew by around 7.1 percent.

In order to anticipate this, he said again, the total optimization of quality, capacity, and updating of Telkomsel network technology has focused on 490 points of interest (POI) in various parts of Indonesia.

"The POI includes 59 residential areas, 68 main transportation transit areas (airports, stations, terminals, and ports), 315 special areas (public service centers, city squares, and shopping centers), 28 main homecoming routes, and 20 mosques. Raya," he said, quoted from Antara.

A series of network tests on the homecoming route with a distance of 17,895 kilometers (km) have also been carried out by Telkomsel to ensure the quality and availability of the network, including 2,725 main toll access sections throughout Indonesia.

Strengthening network infrastructure capabilities has also been carried out through increasing capacity of 277 units of 4G/LTE BTS, adding 221 new 4G/LTE BTS units, and operating an additional 53 units of BTS (COMBAT) compact mobile, complementing more than 260,000 Telkomsel BTS units serving 96 percent of the population in Indonesia and almost all of which have been supported by 4G/LTE broadband technology.

"Another effort that has been prepared by Telkomsel is to increase the network capacity for the GPRS support node (GGSN) gateway so that the total becomes 11,772 Gbps," he said again.

As for the Internet, there is an increase in capacity so that the total becomes 12,590 gbps. For the convenience of 4G/LTE technology-based voice services, Telkomsel's VoLTE (voice over LTE) technology network is available in 514 cities/districts throughout Indonesia that can be used in more than 100 types of smartphones.

Telkomsel since 2022 has gradually and measurably upgraded the entire 3G network to 4G/LTE in 504 cities/districts and continues this year.
