JAKARTA – The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reported that Indonesia's export value in January 2023 was US$22.31 billion.

Deputy for Production Statistics at BPS Habibullah said this figure was down 6.36 percent compared to the December 2022 record of US$23.82 billion.

"The decline in exports in total continued the decline in the previous month. Exports have also declined in the last five months, both in terms of value and volume," he said while holding a virtual press conference on Wednesday, February 15.

According to Habibullah, growth in January 2023 export conditions on a year-on-year (yoy) basis experienced a slowdown compared to January 2022.

"In the last three years, export growth in January has had the same pattern when compared to December, which has decreased on a monthly basis or month to month (mtm)," he said.

Habibullah explained, the decline in exports was influenced by the decline in trade in non-oil and gas commodities.

"There was a decline in exports of mineral fuels, metal ores and ashes, animal fats, and oils, iron, and steel," he said.

Meanwhile, oil and gas exports increased by 0.98 percent driven by an increase in oil-produced commodities which grew 71.2 percent.

From the data shared by Habibullah, the decline in export value has occurred since September 2022, which at that time was US$24.77 billion.

Then in October 2022, it slumped to US$24.72 billion, in November 2022 US$24.09 billion, in December 2022 US$23.82 billion, and in January 2023 to US$22.31 billion.
