JAKARTA - The North Sumatra Main Distribution Unit (UID) is ready to supply electricity using New Renewable Energy (EBT) at the Lake Toba Powerboat F1 event, Bige District, Toba Regency on February 24-26, 2023.

"During this international event, PLN will supply electricity using New Renewable Energy (EBT). This proves that the use of EBT in North Sumatra is quite high up to 43.47 percent," said General Manager of PLN UID North Sumatra Tonny

Tonny said that in meeting electricity needs during the international event, PLN had prepared two PLTM EBT generators including the Hutaraja PLTM with a capacity of 2x2.5 MW and PLTM Aek Silang 2 with a capacity of 2x5 MW.

"Strengthening the 20 kV back up network for the Powerboat F1 event is carried out through network modifications so that it will facilitate maneuvers and improvements in the quality of the voltage parameters to be sent to Bige," he said.

He said the modification of this network would also provide greater access to the utilization of EBT generators, especially PLTM Aek Silang 2 to support the back up needs of the Balige system during the event.

"PLN has prepared a green electricity supply from the EBT power plant for this five-year event. This is to prove that PLN is ready to support national and international events with reliable and environmentally friendly energy," said Tonny.

Toba Regency is known for its enormous potential for EBT. The high potential for mini hydro, has attracted many Toba Regency to Independent Power Plant (IPP) investors to build mini hydro plants in the area.

Tonny also added that the construction of the main network and back-up network has been completed. It is recorded that the progress of the work has reached 97 percent. The work will be completed on February 15, 2023.
