Regarding Ojol Tariff Plan To Be Regulated By Governor, Ministry Of Transportation: Still Being Discussed

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub) plans to transfer the authority to set online motorcycle taxi (ojol) rates to regional governments, in this case, the governor. The plan is currently still in the discussion stage.

Director of Road Transportation of the Ministry of Transportation Suharto said that it was very likely that regulatory changes would be made to accommodate the planned relocation.

For your information, the plan to transfer the authority of the ojol tariff will be carried out by revising Ministerial Regulation (PM) Number 12 of 2019 concerning Safety Protection for Motorcycle Users Used for Public Interests.

"Still in the discussion stage. Later will change everything (the rules). But now, of course, regulatory changes cannot be instantaneous. There are still coordination meetings and all kinds of things," he said when met at the Ministry of Transportation, Jakarta, Tuesday, February 7.

When asked about the target for when the ojol tariff rules could be enforced, Suharto hoped that they would be enforced as soon as possible.

"Our hope is as soon as possible, but of course, we can't predict because the coordination meeting involves many agencies," he said.

In Suharto's opinion, the ojol tariff is indeed more appropriate to be regulated by the local government. This is because the operational scope is only at a short distance.

"For us, the name ojek is in the area, from Jakarta to Semarang, for example, there is no ojek. The scope will not be intercity. It's called ojol for small areas, more appropriate for local government," he said.

Regarding the plan to transfer the authority to set ojol tariffs to regional governments, said Suharto, his party is still inviting several stakeholders to discuss this issue.

"It's already in part, (but) it's not finished yet," he said.
