JAKARTA - PT PLN (Persero) West Nusa Tenggara Regional Main Unit (UIW NTB) noted that throughout 2022 it managed to process more than 30,000 tons of fly ash bottom ash (Faba) into infrastructure raw materials.

The Faba used is generated from two Steam Power Plant (PLTU) locations in NTB, namely the Jeranjang-West Lombok PLTU and the West Sumbawa-Taliwang PLTU.

PLN UIW NTB General Manager, Sudjarwo, said the use of Faba from two PLTUs in NTB is clear evidence that PLN is processing the rest of the plant's operations to drive the economy.

In collaboration with various stakeholders, PLN continues to encourage efforts to utilize Faba which can improve people's welfare.

PLN is also collaborating with local MSMEs to work together to process Faba into raw materials for paving blocks, bricks, mortar, road construction, structural concrete, pottery, pozzolanic cement to tetrapods to resist coastal abrasion.

“Faba is not only trash, but the PLTU waste has actually become a catalyst for driving the wheels of the economy. The hope is that a circular economy can be realized, not only for the people around the PLTU but for the entire NTB community in general", said Djarwo in an official statement, Wednesday, January 18.

Djarwo revealed that the utilization of more than 30 thousand tons of Faba in NTB was absorbed for several categories.

He explained, from the Faba PLTU Jeranjang, 24,300 tons of Faba was for internal use and 2,700 tons for government agencies such as the stabilization of the Brimob field in Ampenan.

Then as much as 2,700 tons were used by community groups such as the Magot Center in Rembiga, and 250 tons were used by 38 MSMEs on Lombok Island for the construction of mosques, ad village program groups assisted by the NTB Province Environment and Forestry Service.

Meanwhile, from the Sumbawa PLTU, 1,150 tons of Faba were for internal use, 2,100 tons were for MSME utilization, 82 tons were for use by agencies, and 161 tons were used by community groups.

"PLN continues to encourage and open opportunities for people who want to use Faba to become high-value-use products. The efforts made by PLN are the company's commitment to the principles of Environmental, Social, and Governance in creating sustainable economic development", said Djarwo.

Head of the NTB Province Environment and Forestry Service Julmansyah appreciated PLN's steps in optimizing the use of Faba to drive the economy in NTB. Faba, which is waste from the PLTU, has been successfully processed into paving blocks, bricks, and other construction materials.

"Faba, which so far has no use value, is now a resource that can improve the economy in the region/village. Communities can make Faba various forms of material for development", said Julmansyah.
