Kemenparekraf Target Foreign Exchange Contributions From The Tembus Tourism Sector 5.95 Billion US Dollars This Year

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy (Kemenparekraf) targets foreign exchange revenue from the tourism sector to increase in 2023. This is in line with the revocation of the PPKM policy by President Joko Widodo some time ago.

"With a tourism foreign exchange target of 2.07 billion to 5.95 billion US dollars," said Menparekraf Sandiaga Uno in a year-end press conference, quoted from the Kemenparekraf YouTube page on Saturday, January 14.

This is in line with the increasing number of foreign tourists (tourists) and domestic tourists (wisnus) in 2023.

In detail, the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy predicts that the number of foreign tourists (tourists) will reach 3.5 million-7.4 million people.

Meanwhile, the number of foreign tourists is targeted at 1.2 billion-1.4 billion people.

The Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy also noted that Indonesia's foreign exchange revenue from this sector reached 4.26 billion US dollars in 2022.

Based on Indonesian data, the figure of 4.26 billion US dollars has tripled from the target.

Previously, the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy targeted foreign exchange revenue from the tourism sector of US$1.7 billion last year.

Not only that, this figure has increased by 769.39 percent compared to 2021, which was only US$0.49 billion.

This is due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The year 2021 is touted to be the most gloomy year for the Indonesian tourism sector

In fact, in 2020 or the first year of COVID-19 was rampant in Indonesia, Indonesia's foreign exchange revenue still reached more than six times the figure obtained in 2021, which was 3.38 billion US dollars.

Meanwhile, Sandiaga Uno said that the surge in tourism foreign exchange last year could not be separated from the increase in foreign tourist visits, along with the decline in COVID-19 cases in Indonesia.

It is recorded that the number of foreign tourists who come to Indonesia reaches 3.92 million people as of October 2022. On the other hand, Sandiaga estimates that the movement of domestic tourists (wisnus) is 633 to 703 million.

"With the 2022 Christmas holidays and the 2023 (Nataru) new year, we hope that the movement of foreign tourists can be close to 800 million," he concluded.
