Please Note! Starting January 1, 2023, Low Oktan Fuel Should Not Circulate In Pasaran

JAKARTA - The government will remove low-octane fuel oil (BBM). Such as Premium type fuel which has octan 88 levels starting January 1, 2023.

Director General of Oil and Gas (Dirjen Migas) of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Tutuka Ariadji said this policy was carried out because the world has attention to the environment and demands for the use of fuel with higher specifications.

"The world demand specification is getting higher and tighter for the environment and we are moving from Euro 4 standard fuel to Euro 5," Tutuka said at the Energy Corner, Monday, December 26.

For this reason, the government has made a decision to no longer distribute RON 88 fuel such as Pertamina's Premium and Vivo's Revvo 89 on January 1, 2023.

"So starting next year officially there will be no EURO 88. Only 90 and above," added Tutuka.

Previously, in October 2022, the Government issued a ban on Public Fuel Filling Stations (SPBU) operating in Indonesia selling fuel with RON levels below 90.

The deletion rule is contained in the Decree of the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Number 245.K/MG.01/MEM.M/2022 concerning Amendments to the Decree of the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Number 62.K/12/MEM/2020 concerning Basic Price Formula in Calculation of Retail Selling Prices Types of General Gasoline and Solar Oil which are channeled through gas stations and or Fisherman's Fuel Filling Stations.

"That the standard and quality (specificification) of RON 88 gasoline-type gasoline (gasoline) marketed domestically has been declared invalid starting January 1, 2023," the regulation reads, quoted Wednesday, October 26.
