JAKARTA - The Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) has begun to revitalize the Balekambang Park area located on Jalan Ahmad Yani, Surakarta, Central Java. The work process will be carried out in 2022.

PUPR Minister Basuki Hadimuljono said the revitalization would restore the initial function of Balekambang Park as a kebon rojo or king garden for parks in the middle of the city.

"The revitalization work of this park must be very careful. Return to its original form, so that buildings that do not need to be torn down. According to President Joko Widodo, the park was once one of the best parks in Southeast Asia," Minister Basuki said in a written statement, Friday, November 4.

Therefore, Basuki advised in carrying out the construction to prioritize balance and environmental friendliness. The goal is that this park has more green open space as a place for people to socialize.

"Make a natural botanical garden by not cutting trees and using too much concrete. The use of barriers does not use concrete, but uses natural stones," he said.

In addition to structuring green open spaces and building performances, said Basuki, his party will dredge the lake.

"The lake will be returned to its original condition. The sedimentation has been around for decades, we renovated it like Taman Mini Indonesia Indah," he explained.

For information, Balekambang Park was built during the reign of KGPAA Mangkunegara VIII, October 26, 1921. The construction of the park is a form of love for KGPAA Mangkunegara VIII to his two daughters, GRAY Partini and GRAY Partinah.

The revitalization was carried out by PT PP contractors worth IDR 159.4 billion at the cost of the 2022-2023 FY State Budget. The scope of revitalization work includes the construction of open performance stages, performance buildings, arrival pavilions, aviation and deer parks, flower parks, skywalks, reservoirs, and partition pools.
