Jokowi's Message To Erick Thohir: Involve World Musicians To Participate In Discussing Global Issues In M20

JAKARTA - The G20 Forum which will be held in Bali in mid-November will begin with the people-to-people movement.

One of them is the holding of a movement between world musicians who are members of Music 20 (M20).

SOE Minister Erick Thohir received a message from President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) that the people-to-people movement in the G20 forum provides an opportunity for people between countries to be actively involved.

Furthermore, Erick said, if all this time the G20 forum was closely related to meetings between the government elites of a country, then the Indonesian G20 forum was more inclusive by involving various groups, one of which was musicians.

"Talks with the President (Jokowi) so that the G20 should not only be heads of state-heads of state whose political issues and sometimes disadvantaged communities are involved. Mr. President wants to hold a people-to-people movement, namely a movement from the community. One of them at that time we deliberately discussed as People who like music, why don't they also make an event in the G20, namely Music 20 (M20)," Erick said to the media, as quoted on Wednesday, November 2.

Erick admitted that he had discussed with musical figures such as Tantowi Yahya, Chandra Darusman, and Triawan Munaf.

It was from this musical figure that the idea was proposed to gather world musicians in the M20. The world musician will make a movement to voice issues related to the latest global developments.

Erick said that there are two main issues that will be raised, namely those related to peace and the environment.

The M20 movement repeats the success of the 1980s musician movement which had launched a project titled We are the World.

"We know that music is an extraordinary movement. In the past, the inspiration was We are the World, where about hunger. Now with this global situation, there is an agreement that world musicians make a wave of unity, the environment, and others," he said. Eric.

According to Erick, M20 is an implementation of Jokowi's message that the G20 event really gives an effective message to the world community.

In addition to the musicians' event, the people to people movement also targets the movement of world religious leaders who are members of Religion 20 or (R20).

"Tomorrow there will also be R20 in Bali. This is also how religious leaders around the world talk about peace. This is the people to people movement that distinguishes the G20 in Indonesia from others," said Erick.
