JAKARTA - An environmental health expert from the University of Indonesia, Budi Haryanto, stated that PT Pertamina (Persero)'s efforts to develop green energy will affect environmental health, including reducing global warming and climate change.

"It must always be supported, because the development of green energy will have a positive impact on health and the environment," Budi said as quoted from Antara, Tuesday, November 1.

He hoped that Pertamina would be consistent in developing the green energy because it would reduce emissions to a minimum.

"Thus, it also reduces global warming and climate change," he said.

The same thing was said by member of Commission VII DPR RI, Sartono Hutomo.

According to Sartono, the world is currently competing to transform through the use of clean energy.

He gave an example of Pertamina's green refinery, as a national strategic program, its production level must also continue to be optimized so that the biodiesel development target can continue up to B100.

On the other hand, he continued, the government must be able to develop the domestic market to use green energy, so that domestic demand will be large, both in the form of biodiesel and biofuels such as Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO), which is currently being developed by Pertamina.

According to him, the use of clean energy is a must.

Indonesia has reached the point of no return in climate change and energy security so that new and renewable energy is a concrete solution.

Pertamina is considered to have shown a commitment in developing green energy, namely by implementing a transition program from fossil energy to clean energy.

In fact, the budget allocation for green energy development until 2060, in total is estimated to reach 150 billion US dollars or around Rp2,322 trillion (assuming an exchange rate of Rp15,490 per US dollar).

Pertamina has also begun to set aside budget allocations, specifically for the development of green energy, such as the development of green hydrogen, electric vehicle battery products (Electric Vehicle or EV battery).

In addition, Pertamina's various products have also received world recognition. Among others, HVO or Green Diesel D100.

The green fuel produced by the Cilacap Green Refinery has received an international sustainability and carbon certification (ISCC).

This product, known as Pertamina Renewable Diesel (Pertamina RD), contributes to the reduction of carbon emissions by 65 to 70 percent of general fuels, so it deserves to be called a green product.

Related to this, Sartono hopes that Indonesia's position as the G20 Presidency can encourage actions to accelerate the clean energy transition as the key in achieving zero carbon emissions or carbon neutral in 2060.
