SAMPIT - The Food Security Service (DKP) of Central Kalimantan Province said that rice and cooking oil were the products that were most in demand by residents during the cheap market held in Sampit, East Kotawaringin Regency.
"For rice, the total is 2.5 tons consisting of local rice and medium rice. In addition, there are also 700 liters of cooking oil and 200 kilograms of garlic," said Head of the Central Kalimantan Food Security Service, Riza Rahmadi, as quoted by Antara, Sunday, September 25.
According to him, rice and cooking oil remain the choice because these commodities are the basic ingredients needed by the community.
It is evident from the three cheap markets in Sampit, the two commodities are always awaited and in demand by the public.
"We certainly hope that through this market intervention, people's purchasing power will be well maintained and prices of basic commodities will stabilize, so that we can prevent a spike in inflation," he hoped.

Riza also expressed his gratitude to the East Kotawaringin Regency Government and all related parties so that the activity was carried out well.
"According to the Governor's orders, we are always ready to carry out activities like this to help the community. With the involvement of all of us, I believe we can control the inflation rate," he said.
The activity was held in three locations, namely the Baamang Sub-district Office, Karang Intan Market, Mentawa Baru District, Ketapang, and Mentaya Seberang Village, Seranau District.
Governor Sugianto Sabran and Deputy Governor Edy Pratowo along with other officials were present to visit the three locations. They were accompanied by the Regent of East Kotawaringin Halikinnor and his staff.
There were 2,500 cheap basic food packages distributed. Each package is worth IDR 150,000 but only sells for IDR 50,000 because IDR 100,000 is subsidized by the local government.
On that occasion, Governor Sugianto was willing to help by covering the remaining costs, so that the basic food packages were distributed free of charge to residents.
