JAKARTA - Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Arifin Tasrif stated that Indonesia and Denmark have agreed to establish strategic cooperation to accelerate the energy transition in Indonesia.
The agreement was marked by the signing of a Letter of Intent (LoI) between PT Sarana Multi Infrastruktur (SMI) and Danida Sustainable Infrastructure Finance (DSIF) in Jakarta on September 8, 2022.
"To achieve a clean, sustainable, fair, affordable and inclusive energy transition, we emphasize the need to strengthen collaboration for innovative partnerships and ensure the necessary technology financing and access," said ESDM Minister Arifin Tasrif in a statement quoted by Antara, Friday 9 September.
"We welcome the exploration of new partnership initiatives to support the goals of countries in accelerating the energy transition, including between developed and developing countries," he added.
The Indonesian government appreciates Denmark's continued support and contribution to accelerate energy transition and reduce greenhouse gas emissions in Indonesia, as well as the progress of the Indonesia-Denmark energy partnership program for 2021-2025. The partnership program focuses on energy modeling, renewable energy integration, and energy efficiency in Indonesia.
Several cooperation programs carried out by the Indonesian and Danish governments, including the Indonesia-Denmark Partnership Program (INDODANGPP), the Sustainable Island Initiatives (SII), and Friends of Indonesia Renewable Energy (FIRE).
The SII program has contributed to the energy transition program in Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), and Batam, Riau Islands, by supporting the two provinces through the development and utilization of waste energy, biomass and business relationship studies.
Currently, both countries have chosen Aceh and West Java for sustainable provincial initiatives. The Danish government is committed to supporting the two provinces to improve the regional energy transition.
Minister Arifin Tasrif thanked Danish Nordic Cooperation and Cooperation Minister Flemming Møller Mortensen for Denmark's contribution in supporting Indonesia's energy transition efforts.
"I believe this bilateral cooperation will continue and continue to a higher level," said Arifin.
